In the same vein, I refuse to stand stiffly facing the front of the elevator -- we denizens of this elevator have been temporarily thrown together in close proximity for the duration of this ride and I refuse to spend more effort ignoring my fellows than it would take to have a perhaps illuminating, perhaps routine, conversation. Sometimes I connect with my fellow man and stave off the darkness for a few moments. Sometimes I learn something amazing. Sometimes I just creep out or annoy the poor folks stuck with me for the duration. But it's always more interesting than just looking at the numbers and waiting for the ding.
