For the untold millions waiting breathlessly for the next episode drop of the “Doctor Waffle & Friends” podcast: an apology, an explanation, and a teaser.
The Apology. I’m so sorry that the episode is not ready for our usual second-Friday-of-the-month release! It’s well into “production” (a.k.a. Dr. Waffle editing it on her laptop with a cat on her lap), but not quite ready yet.
The Explanation. Dr. Waffle has been distracted/undone by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina, where she has people and a house, and which she recently visited to shore up said house (and some of said people). Also, coincidentally, our Guest Writer this week is from Asheville—and currently an evacuee.1
The Teaser. But if you will be patient and wait until the first Friday of November,2 we have a corker of an episode in the hopper! (Possibly that is a mixed metaphor.) The fabulous Melissa Cole will be sharing an essay about writing an essay that appeared in Newsweek—it’s all about motherhood, fertility, and the public personae of writers. Melissa is a writer and also a lawyer and former law professor, so we do a deep dive into all sorts of interesting questions regarding the right to privacy and legal precedents around abortion. Look for it two weeks from today!
If you would like to make a donation to hurricane victims in WNC, please consider the following: Manna Food Bank, Hearts with Hands Disaster Relief, BeLoved Asheville, Warren Wilson College.
Which will bring us back to our previous, normal release schedule.
